BIODIESEL FROM VEGETABLE WESTE

BIODIESEL PRODUCTION FROM WASTE

BIODIESEL

Biodiesel is an alternative fuel which is as effective as traditional fossil fuels like Diesel and Petrol. The basic aim of Biodiesel is to convert the waste into useful material. The Biodiesel (Bioethanol) was produced by using fruit waste like Indian water chestnut, sweet potato, jackfruit, and pineapple. To get the resulting product, the conversion of vegetable wastes were respectively carried out via acid hydrolysis, which yielded fermentable sugar. After fermentation, it is considered that the sweet Potato waste produces 0.097% of Ethanol (0.79 mg/ml), water chestnut waste produces 0.045% of Ethanol (0.45 mg/ml), jackfruit waste produces 0.045% of Ethanol (0.45 mg/ml) and pineapple waste produces 0.090% Ethanol (0.90 mg/ml).

Chemically biodiesel is a monoalkyl ester of long-chain fatty acid derived from renewable feedstock like vegetable oil and animal fat. It is produced by reacting oil or fat with monohydric alcohol in the presence of a catalyst. Biodiesel can be prepared from oil but this method is very costly. So that the alternative way to prepare biodiesel from vegetable wastage or rejected material from oil industries and also from many other sources which makes it very cost-effective.

BIODIESEL PREPARATION

REQUIREMENTS

  •     Algae, Fungi, Yeast, Agricultural residues.
  •     Methanol or Ethanol.
  •     Sodium hydroxide.

PROCEDURE

BIODIESEL PRODUCTION FROM WASTE

The above ingredient with an excess of alcohol and sodium hydroxide were taken in a container and it was fitted with an airtight vessel and heated continuously. Again the container was fixed with a bent tube that is connected with water continuously. After some time the Biodiesel was collected in a refluxed container.

BIODIESEL ADVANTAGES

  • Biodiesel is a renewable energy source. Since it is made from vegetable and animal fats.
  • It causes less pollution than Petroleum Diesel.
  • It is Biodegradable and non-toxic.
  • It is also known as Green House Diesel because it can reduce Green House gasses up to 75%.

BIODIESEL APPLICATIONS
  • On-Road Vehicles.
  • Off-Road Vehicle.
  • Marine Vessels.
  • Lubricant Agent.
  • Fuel Additive.

BIODIESEL PLANTS IN INDIA

Biodiesel is a fuel that can be used in any Diesel vehicle of the current era. To fulfill the current needs of the market there are several Biodiesel plants like Shirke Biodiesel plant(Maharashtra), Krishi oils limited(Madhya Pradesh), Wash Well Biodiesel(Rajasthan), etc. are present in India.
